We live in uncertain times, to which some more than others, we are getting used to. However, we are grateful to have plans that, on one hand, amuse us and, on the other, make us feel safe living with an unpleasant virus...
As it is well known, Barcelona offers a range of possibilities according to our tastes; but as almost all of us like to know the most authentic side of the cities, today I propose you a local route -24hr Covid Free-, to enjoy the capital of Barcelona as never before and to do it, safe and sound.
Few pleasures feel as good as starting the day without an alarm clock and a good coffee. That's why, of all the places possible, today our first stop will be at SlowMov, located at Luis Antúnez 18. But be careful because this is not just any cafe or bar, but a workshop with its doors open so that we can all taste freshly ground seasonal coffee from all over the world in house- as long as there are no restrictions - or take-away. Here they also offer a wide variety of products from small producers who work with delicious organic sweets, ceramics, jams, oil and even hand-printed clothes.
After a delicious breakfast, we are ready to go into action and that's why the second stop will be on foot until we reach the archaic Palau Robert, a stately and neoclassical building built between 1898 and 1903 as the private residence of Robert i Surís, Marquis de Robert, an influential Catalan aristocrat, financier and politician of Girona origin. Currently, exhibitions and concerts are held in its interior and garden. Entrance is free to visit it, but it must be taken into account that while the pandemic lasts, there are some limitations on the capacity of the building. Opens every day from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 8pm and Sundays and holidays, from 9am to 2:30pm.
A few meters from the palace we find our third stop, the Antique Boutique located at Calle Seneca 12. Currently this fantastic showroom, open since 2001 with its own workshops, has focused on its collection of furniture of its own design and is open by appointment, to offer a new way to reach the public. Here you can select your furniture to measure, choosing colors and finishes, pieces completely customized and made 100% handmade. In addition, if you wish, you can visit their workshops to experience their creation process on first hand. "In a world that is becoming more and more standardized, robotic and depersonalized, we are betting on the opposite: unique, sophisticated pieces with a retro air and with a direct and personal treatment", explain their creators Sonia and Luis.
After delighting in the wonderful world of interior design and decoration, it's time for fashion design. At Calle Seneca 28, we'll find our next stop, which is none other than the luxury women's fashion boutique, Lydia Delgado. Here you will discover the universe of this great local designer, her latest collection FW2020-21 and also the line of her daughter Miranda Makaroff, artist and influencer, Miranda for Lydia. Daytime looks, party dresses for weddings and events, jewelry and accessories, as well as her own paintings and ceramics in an explosion of color and shapes. Her long experience translates into a commitment to craftsmanship, quality and maximum attention to detail; unequivocal proof that Lydia Delgado is one of the great values of Spanish fashion and art.
After making the most of the morning, it's time for lunch and there's nothing better than doing it in the wonderful hidden restaurant Les Filles Café. Located behind a beautiful wooden door on the corner of Calle Minerva 2 and Diagonal Avenue, is an oasis of tranquility with a terrace and exquisite interior design, where you can enjoy an organic menu that bets on health without sacrificing taste with proposals for all tastes: local, Asian, Italian ... Including fresh salads, freshly made hamburgers and of course "avocado toast" for the Avocado lovers.
Although if what you want is to taste the authentic Mediterranean kitchen, I propose a restaurant also with terrace and just 6 minutes walking from Lydia Delgado's shop, free of agglomerations and where the best local kitchen waits for us based on seasonal products and located in Plaza de Molina, 2. Welcome to La Xarxa! The success of this restaurant, led by the young and talented chef Carlos Allué, is its gastronomic offer based on top quality seasonal products, dishes full of flavor and a warm service and attention to customers. From here I recommend Carlos' patatas bravas, the Ebro Delta oysters, fresh cockles, anchovies, tomato salad, the ugly omelette on coca bread with tomato, the tasty seafood rice, the Galician-style sirloin steak with butter Café de Paris style, the "rabo de toro" with parmentier, its famous "dishes to share" highlighting the boneless chicken buns or the shrimp tacos with pico de gallo and chile mayonnaise, the Russian tuna salad and many more seafood dishes. "I want people to come to La Xarxa as if they always have something to celebrate", highlights Chef Carlos. Although with this proposal it is not for less...
And to get the food down, there is nothing better than a pleasant walk, approximately ten minutes, to the next stop: Luzio located at Calle Ferran Agulló 16-18. This great shop-showroom also includes the restaurant Iluzione in its interior, is undoubtedly the best concept store in Barcelona and offers exclusive pieces from all corners of the globe ranging from unique furniture that have been recovered to give them a second life, new design objects, its own furniture and of renowned suppliers, unique gift items or works of art, among many other treasures. Here, contemporaneity and exuberance verge on the dreamlike and staging has been one of the creators' obsessions, trying to make the client imagine the combination of different styles and origins, in a surprising and seductive mix.
At this point of the day, it's time to rest and let ourselves be cared for, and to do so, nothing better than taking a cab to enjoy the sensory experience offered by the wonderful Signature Spa, located at Calle Trafalgar 26, with a revitalizing dinner included.
The first vegan spa in Spain and the renowned Flax & Kale Passage restaurant have joined forces to offer a new proposal in Barcelona where you can enjoy a multi-sensorial massage to relax, nourish and reconnect the mind, body and spirit, alone or with a partner, with organic and vegan products. You will also tour the water circuit, located in what used to be a fabric factory dating from 1878, which will leave you completely relaxed and you will end the day enjoying a healthy vegetarian cuisine. Because in Flax & Kale Passage all the dishes are designed not only with gastronomic pleasure in mind, but also for their nutritional value. 80% of their offer is Plant-Based and the remaining 20% are recipes that include blue fish as well as gluten-free pizzas and Asian fusion dishes.
Welcome to the first local Covid free route in Barcelona, designed to discover and enjoy, with all the necessary safety measures, this wonderful city, when the "new normal" returns.
